The UK Active Travel Awards at Active County Cambridgeshire 2026
Meet the Judges

JOHN DALES
Director and Head of Transport Planning
Urban Movement
Enabling more people to walk, wheel and cycle is essential for the achievement of so many transport and higher order policy goals. And while we have seen growth in the funding available for active travel in recent years, there remains not just much more to do but also much better to do. My hope is that these awards can inspire the professions to rise to the challenge.

SOPHIE EDMONDSON
Head of Programmes
Active Travel England
I'm looking forward to taking a moment to celebrate the best of what's out there this year. From our best schemes and initiatives to our best leaders, teams and advocates, the UK Active Travel Awards will shine a well-deserved spotlight on them.

TOM WHARF
Head of Design
Transport for Wales
I'm very excited to celebrate the professionals and projects reimagining places and transport systems towards healthier, fairer and more sustainable outcomes. As well as being technically challenging, walking and wheeling projects require the careful forging of trust and partnerships. This certainly isn't easy, but is impactful. At Transport for Wales we see the value of making walking, wheeling and cycling an everyday choice, and are glad to support the experts making this happen.

EMMA PARTLOW
CEO
National Centre for Accessible Transport
As CEO of the National Centre for Accessible Transport, I am delighted to be a judge for the UK Active Travel Awards, recognising the designers, engineers, policymakers and practitioners who shape everyday journeys, ensuring transport systems and travel work for everyone. It is a privilege to support and celebrate the work driving this forward.

ROBERT WEETMAN
Freelance specialist in how the design of streets affects walking, wheeling and cycling
I'm pleased to be part of judging these awards. What we're involved in - work to improve conditions for walking, wheeling and cycling - is about far more than how we get around. How our streets are designed, and how our use of them is managed, have huge effects on our quality of life. And "inclusive design" isn't a luxury, it's about basic human rights. Given that context, work that really pushes things forward deserves recognition.
