Best Active Travel Infrastructure Project
Winner:
-
City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council: Bradford City Centre Cycling and Walking Improvements Scheme
Highly commended:
-
Manchester City Council:
Manchester to Chorlton Cycleway
The judges loved this project, praising both the outstanding quality of the infrastructure and the transformational impact it will have on Bradford.
They felt this was much more than a single intervention, but a collection of ideas and improvements that could inspire authorities across the UK, including those working with smaller budgets.
Best Active Travel Team
Winner:
-
Islington Council:
Public Realm, Transport Projects and Traffic Engineering Team
Highly commended:
-
London Borough of Lambeth:
Lambeth Active Travel Team
The judges found this category particularly challenging, with an outstanding range of teams shortlisted.
What set Islington apart was the evidence of strong collaboration across different teams, a shared commitment to common goals, and a culture of continual learning that provides a model of practice for other authorities.

Best Behaviour Change or Engagement Initiative
Winner:
-
Transport for London:
Santander Cycles Concession Partnership Trial (Transport for London & Borough Collaboration)
Highly commended:
-
Manchester City Council:
Manchester City of Cycling
In the most competitive category of all, the judges felt this project stood out for three key reasons: its focus on enabling greater access to cycling for people in lower-income groups, its potential to be replicated elsewhere, and the strength of the partnership working behind it.
And, of course, the project delivered excellent results.

Active Travel Champion Award
Winner:
-
Roxanne De Beaux
Highly commended:
-
Dave du Feu
Dave was a founder member of Spokes, the Edinburgh-based Lothian Cycling Campaign, in 1977 and has been one of its driving forces ever since.
The judges wanted to recognise Dave for representing the many people who have spent decades quietly and determinedly campaigning to improve conditions for cycling.
Thanks to his dedication, many of the changes that Spokes helped bring about have become such a familiar part of Edinburgh that it is hard to imagine the city without them. -
Hamish Belding
Having previously been a cycling training instructor, Hamish joined Sustrans in Cardiff in 2013 and continues to inspire schools, teachers, parents and children to embrace cycling through the school bike bus programme.
The judges felt his work represents active travel in action: turning ideas into everyday experiences and helping communities build lasting change.
Roxanne joined Camcycle, the Cambridge Cycling Campaign, in 2015 and became its Chief Executive in 2017, before stepping down earlier this year ahead of returning to Australia.
Under her leadership, Camcycle became one of the country's most respected and effective cycling campaign organisations, while never losing sight of the needs of people walking and wheeling.
The judges felt that Camcycle's professionalism, technical expertise, campaigning success and influence across Cambridge and beyond are a testament to Roxanne's leadership and the exceptional team she built.
Her contribution to active travel in Cambridge, and much further afield, makes her a thoroughly deserving recipient of the inaugural Active Travel Champion Award.
